And he wouldn't buy one even if it were the exact same car as a Honda or a Toyota and cost $3,000 less. The experience of having a lousy car (or several) really stays with you. The Big Three have a lot of work to do to convince the car-buying public that their products are as good as Japan's. For my part, I really hope they succeed. And even though I said I thought they might have to leave Detroit, for the city's sake, I hope they don't. I like Detroit (although I've never been there). I like the people I've known who are from there (you among them), and of course, I'll love Detroit forever for giving us Motown. :DAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01111908124909857884noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4732717868446445360.post-84399621630255977412008-12-21T20:43:00.000-06:002008-12-21T20:43:00.000-06:00LOL I love the way you name your cars, Mary. I gave it to a family friend when I wanted a new car -- and I'm sure he drove it for many more years.
I've owned two Fords. "Fix Or Repair Daily" about sums it up. Miserable experiences. I finally got rid of them when I couldn't take the stress anymore ... and leased a Honda. Again, no problems.
So, yeah. We definitely need to see better cars out of the Big Three. My husband recently leased an Edge. So far, so good. We both like it a lot. (Knock wood). His Dad was just in an accident in his Edge -- and the car (air bags) literally saved his life. That level of quality and safety is good to know too.
I don't know that I agree that we need to change the names of the companies. I like the history of Henry Ford, even if some of the products haven't been great. I also like the history of the automobile industry in Detroit. I'm hoping that the city of Detroit starts making a comeback in lots of positive ways. If Detroit starts making good cars, I don't think it will take too long to catch on. Given my husband's experience thus far with the Edge, I'm leaning toward that when my Honda lease expires. They just really need to come up with good products. Good products get a reputation pretty quickly and sell well, especially if they are competetively priced. I think many people would like to buy American -- we just need something good to buy, something that will last!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
